LOCAL firefighters have come to the rescue once more as they raised over £2,000 for the NSPCC in Northern Ireland.
Members of the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service at Crumlin joined forces to raise a fantastic £2163.53 for the charity in memory of local man Paul McLea, who passed away last year.
The event was organised by Paul's brother-in-law Jim McGann, who hails from Glenavy. The team of firefighters, helped by their friends and family, held a car wash at the fire station.

Jim said: "This event is very close to my heart as it was held in memory of Paul who died suddenly in October last year. Paul worked in the PSNI's E Crime unit and he cared deeply about the welfare of young people. Following his untimely death, his wife Gillian decided that money in lieu of flowers should go to the NSPCC and its 24-hour helpline for children and young people, ChildLine. I'm delighted that Karen Walker from the charity was able to join us at the car wash and assist us with the organisation of the event.
"Once again, I've been amazed by the generosity of people from around the area. There was a great sense of community spirit on the day with hundreds of local residents coming out to support our efforts for this very worthwhile cause."
Jim continued: "I'd like to thank Belfast International Airport and local businesses The Flower Studio, Bliss, Café Newton, Pizzarelly's, Lavery's Greengrocers, Donnelly's Butchers, Bushes Bakery, Longstaffs, G and M Foods and McGeown's Restaurant for their overwhelming support, as well as the team of firefighters and volunteers who gave of their time so freely."

Karen Walker said: "It was fantastic to take part in and benefit from this event. Funds raised will help NSPCC run services in the area, including ChildLine, the NSPCC's helpline for children and young people who need help or advice."
Paul's wife Gillian concluded: "I am delighted that so much money has been raised in Paul's memory and would like to thank my sister Annette and brother-in-law Jim for all their hard work. My entire family have been an amazing support to me since Paul's death and it was lovely to see so many people including my family, our friends and Paul's family, help out at the event."
