COMMUTERS travelling from Lisburn into Belfast on Tuesday had an easier trip than expected after the Westlink re-opened overnight.

The new underpass at Broadway had been flooded over the weekend and was not scheduled to re-open until the afternoon, but after working throughout the night the time was brought forward.

And by Wednesday morning the rail service between Lisburn and Portadown was back to normal after an emergency timetable had been brought in because of flooding on the line.

A bus substitution had been in place, causing delays of about 30 minutes.
